Backpack Card

Backpack has named early card access among the planned benefits of its BP Participant Program. A card could add everyday spending to an ecosystem spanning an exchange, a self-custody wallet and onchain assets.

Early access

01

Announced access route

BP Participant Program

The programme lists early card access as a future benefit. It does not yet set out a consumer card application, delivery date or guaranteed allocation.

02

A card on the horizon for the Backpack ecosystem

Armani Ferrante, the creator of Solana’s Anchor developer framework, founded Backpack in 2022. It began with a self-custody wallet, then added Mad Lads and an exchange in 2023. The current exchange spans crypto trading, lending, bank transfers and stock products in eligible markets.

The clearest official card reference appears in Backpack’s BP allocation guide. It lists early access to the Backpack card among upcoming Participant Program benefits, alongside other future launches. That places the card within an existing membership ecosystem rather than a standalone email waitlist.

The wallet and the exchange have different custody arrangements, and neither one establishes how the future card will settle purchases. Card network, issuer, fees and application countries still need their own programme details.

CG perspective

03

What this could unlock

Our view of the possibilities, based on the project’s direction.

A daily use for a broader account

A card could give existing Backpack users a way to use part of their account balance outside trading. The opportunity is the connection between products; which balances can fund purchases remains an open question.

A tangible benefit for ecosystem members

Early access gives the Participant Program a possible benefit people could use in daily life. It is worth following how Backpack defines that access, without treating a BP holding or staking decision as a confirmed card reservation.

04

Current access

  1. 1

    Follow Backpack’s card announcements

The BP guide is the current official reference for planned card access.

  2. 2

Explore the existing products if useful

Exchange registration and its referral programme are available separately from the card.

  3. 3

    Wait for dedicated card applications

Look for issuer, eligibility and funding terms rather than assuming a programme membership guarantees access.

What comes nextCheck whether the card connects to an exchange balance, a wallet or a separate account. The announced access benefit does not answer that yet.
