A first look at launch rewards

A browser rewards idea steps outside the browser

Brendan Eich and Brian Bondy founded Brave in 2015. Payments have been part of its story almost from the beginning: Brave Payments arrived in 2016, followed by BAT and Brave Rewards.

The card extends that idea into shopping. BAT Roadmap 4.0 brings together a redesigned Brave Wallet, the planned BravePay stablecoin protocol and a card that earns BAT on purchases. Brave also has a Rewards partner programme with names such as ENS and Anichess; that is the wider ecosystem the card would join.

What this could unlock

Our view of the possibilities, based on the project’s direction.

BAT beyond browsing

Earning the same reward asset from browsing and shopping could make the card feel familiar to Brave users. The next thing to watch is how easily those rewards can be used across the wallet and partner offers.

A wallet that follows you to checkout

Brave already sits where people browse and buy online. Connecting that browser wallet to a physical card could bring online and in-store purchases closer together, with fewer separate places to manage payments.
